Hana and Back

Hana Bound

No excursion is more celebrated than the road to Hāna which winds 50 miles past taro patches, magnificent seascapes, waterfall pools, botanical gardens, and verdant rain forests, leading to one of Hawaii’s most beautiful tropical paradises’. Featured in National Geographic’s “Drives of a Lifetime”, it’s glorious attractions are well documented. Yet few people know the hidden treasures along the way and even fewer grew up with the rich history and dark secrets of its past. Today, more than 1,000 cars traverse this road each day. Having a knowledgeable tour guide can make all the difference for steering clear of the crowds, catching all the delights and creating a “once in a life time” experience.

All The Way around

North Side and South Side

No other tour gives the rich variety of beauty & adventure plus natural & cultural history as our All the Way Around Hāna Tour.  Imagine tracing the base of one the world’s tallest tropical volcanoes in one day.  Haleakalā, the “House of the Sun”, forms more than 75% of the island of Maui.  This all-day adventure begins from Kahului towards Haiku through sugarcane fields and rolling countryside. Then quickly turns into flourishing tropical rainforest, where rivers, waterfalls and fresh water pools abound. This curvaceous journey takes us along high ocean cliffs to visit lava tubes and black sand beaches as well as sea caves, a blowhole and sometimes native wildlife. We lunch in Hāna town; pig tacos, mahi mahi burgers, coconut ice cream and more. Beyond Hāna around the “back side” of the island we climb high onto the shoulder of the mountain and take in a stunning bird’s eye view of the surrounding islands and Ahihi Kina`u (La Perouse Bay) formed by the last flows from the southwest rift zone of Haleakalā. We finish the day circling back into Maui’s Upcountry farm and ranch land.  We refresh and celebrate with wine tasting at Tedeschi’s Winery located on a historic royal estate. Then, as the sun sets relax, reflect or nap as we take you down the mountain towards our original starting point.
